National Institute of Skill Enhancement(NISE)

National Institute of Skill Enhancement (NISE) is a division of NIET.  This division was formed to take care of the intricacies concerning skill training activities in the various initiatives.The parent company, NIET is involving in various teaching and training activities for more than eight years. NIET has taken up a new initiative to provide world class vocational education and skill training to the Indian masses. Besides, NIET will be taking care of some other Divisions also.NISE will have a different methodology and will involve in providing 360 degree teaching and learning pedagogies giving maximum industry oriented ‘on job’ training. The Division also aims to provide quality vocational education, empowering students, developing entrepreneurship skills and giving stress on overall personality and leadership development.

NISE offers vocational training programs in different verticals such as Engineering &Technology, Management Sciences, Hospitality &Tourism, Healthcare, Accounting, Security Management, Yoga and Art Management, Soft skill development and numerous short term courses envisaged under the  Government of India’s “Make in India” skill development initiative.The present skill development process takes place mostly in an informal way. The skill development process is neither systematic nor scientific. Persons acquire skill in the traditional work-places without proper training or tools. They do not get formal certificate and exposure, thus forced to work for lower wages leading to frustration and higher attrition.

   The current system of job trainings are not possible for a large chunk of the population even if they have the attitude for it, due to socio-economic circumstances of the family and the compulsions of earning. This results in lower productivity resulting in lower contribution to the national GDP.  NISE is in the process of creating a system of certification which recognizes the skills and provides education and training in the work place that suits their economic compulsions.  The Division also ensures that students take up skills as per their talent.A large number of the Indian mass are either unemployed or underemployed. This poses a huge challenge to the social fabric and future of our society. Our fast growing economy also needs a large number of trained and skilled labour forces.

The mainstream technical training design and implementation in India is carried out by giving more on class room learning than “on the job training”. The national skills policy makers have considered these key determinants: (a) socio-cultural factors and societal values, and (b) work identity formation process through adolescence. NISE proposes to bring these factors on board and will ensure to resolve this mismatch.

NISE will adopt a platform for Work-Integrated-training based on the national skilled labour requirements and supply mismatch. It will be focusing on the much forgotten apprenticeship model which has paid rich dividends for countries like Germany, Singapore, Sweden etc. NISE proposes to create an inclusive eco-system of industry, professionals, entrepreneurs, and other stake holders and create a platform for accelerated scaling up of skill building process in India. In contrast to the existing models, NISE proposes to mitigate the challenge by creating a career oriented, multi-year learning process with punctuated steps for up-scaling skills thereby enriching the human resource base in India.

There is an acute gap in demand and supply of skilled persons in all industries. On one hand there are large numbers of economically and socially deprived youth with high aspirations who are unable to enter the ‘mainstream’ of technical education. Regular, full time education is not an option for them, since they do not have resources to spend on formal technical education. Due to poverty and extreme financial deprivation in the family they end up either as drop outs or forced to take unskilled jobswhich provide them with easy income. For certain people, the dropping out happen because of   lack of capacity to cope in the mainstream education; the complexity of the competitive curriculum does not suit aptitude. Thus they fail to accomplish the requirements to move on to further levels andresulting in dropping out due to excessive pressure. Existing educational model allows extremely low number of students to continue with their education, both full time and part time.

Lack of systems that caters to the needs of the vulnerable, the marginalized, and the differentially-abled,which, do not fit into the mainstream system will lead to economic instability, further vulnerabilities and stagnation. Another is the lack of knowledge and good counseling. There are places in the country that are still primitive to the modern trends and the family does not venture in to future for children. This opportunity lost, makes the children vulnerable to a village system that does not understand progress.

To address this imbalance in the educational system NISE had carved out a long term, sustainable solution

  • Bridge the current gap by creating an environment of inclusiveness for the youth to progress and participate in mainstream through Skill Enhancement.
  • NISE proposes to achieve this through developmental and delivery partnerships with Industry, Vocational Training Providers and Community based Organizations.
  • To achieve this,NISE will mobilize school dropouts, unemployed and unskilled persons.
  • NISEproposes to adopt the methodology of work integrated trainingprogramme (learning by doing) as the pivotal approach for Skills and competency development.
  • NISE will plan centres for the development of the very rural population throughout the country. This will be in association with the Central/ State Government and other allies who will contribute to human development
